| Underneath the Lintel Quiz Answers |
| |
Each question had a few lines to it. Beside each line was another line where the participants needed to write the answer that fits best the underlined word in that particular line. So the first line in every question was solved with reference to the related slide - as well as the clues in that line. |

Question 1
|
That of your mind is the name of the song _________________
Which was the theme of this film. _________________
The hero’s name can also be worn _________________
By the part that will lie uneasy… _________________
The slide shows a windmill. ‘That of your mind’ refers to “The Windmills of Your Mind”- a song that came out in 1968 and was used as a theme for the 1968 film – “The Thomas Crown Affair” starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. The hero’s name is Thomas Crown. The third line which says that the ‘crown’ can be worn by the part that will lie uneasy … might ring a bell in the minds of those who are familiar with the phrase “Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown”. It is from Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 2. For those who are not familiar with the phrase googling is the best option. So the answers to Q1 are :
Song : The Windmills of Your Mind
Film : The Thomas Crown Affair
Name : Crown
Part : Head |

| Question 2 |
The name of the little one – illustrated _______________
In the year of the first edition. _______________
She holds an object _______________
Which soundly one uses to fly! _______________
Brewing trouble with part of bat, _______________
As well as part of dog… _______________
The name of the girl in Slide 2 is Cosette. The illustration is from the first edition of “Les Miserables” by Victor Hugo in 1862. Part of the illustration has become the logo of the musical. The full illustration is shown below.
She is holding a broomstick. “which” soundly indicates the word “witch” (soundly is a homonym indicator). The one who uses a broomstick to fly is a witch. “Brewing trouble” also invokes the three witches in Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”. Their words below are used in spell :
"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."
So the answers to Q2 are :
Name : Cosette
Year : 1862
Object : Broomstick
One : Witch
Part : WoolPart : Tongue
At this stage, you can look at the 2 sets of answers and see whether any “hidden pattern” is discernible. The last answers of both questions are “head” and “tongue”. It can be deduced that both are parts of the human body. Let us keep that in mind to see if our hypothesis is correct. |

| Question 3 |
City of this electoral palace, ________________
With a part that sounds like an emperor ________________
To whom the third was first dedicated to; ________________
Then withdrawn by its creator ________________
Afflicted with loss ________________
In part that has middle, outer and inner. ________________
If our hypothesis is based on the last answer being a part of the body, then let’s tackle the last line first. The part of the human body that has middle, outer and inner is the ear. If the ear is afflicted, then we lose the sense of hearing. The third referred to is a piece of work by someone who has lost his sense of hearing. Immediately, we are reminded of Beethoven and his third symphony “Eroica” – the heroic , first dedicated to Napolean. When the latter declared himself emperor, Beethoven rededicated the symphony to the memory of a great man. Napolean’s surname is Bonaparte ( sounds like Bonn – a part ). Hence the city is Bonn. Answers to Q3 :
City : Bonn
Emperor : Bonaparte
Third : Eroica
Creator : Beethoven
Loss : Hearing
Part : Ear
This confirms that the hidden pattern hypothesis is true. |
